Tracks in sand tend to be a bit 'blurry' because the sand settles and can be smoothed out by wind. However, in this instance, the hand-like forefoot print with the toes is easily recognisable at the front. The print appears to have extra indentations, especially in the pad area at the back, because the hind foot has come in close behind, slightly overlapping. This overlapping of fore and hind prints is characteristic of possum gait and, in fact, it is rare to find a complete print of a possum hind paw. Photographed at Simpsons Beach, Coromandel Peninsula
