Possum – dark form.
Possum fur can vary in colour from silver-grey to red, brown to almost black. Dark possums are more plentiful in high rainfall parts of New Zealand. Grey possums are more common in drier open country. The very dark possums were introduced from Tasmania and the grey form from mainland Australia. Note the prehensile tail.
