Mice are the smallest rodents in New Zealand. The droppings are 3.9mm to 7.6mm long and 1mm to 2mm wide. They scatter single droppings everywhere as they run, but there may be groups of droppings where they stop to feed or use the same path several times. The ends of mouse droppings are pointed, like those of kiore and ship rat. Very large mouse droppings could therefore be mistaken for droppings from these other two rodent species.
